You have a quickfeed now!

Description:
OK this is the second feature I was working on, and this might be a little bit buggy still so feel free to post bug reports in here or in the github issues of audiopub.
This is basically a TikTok/YouTube Shorts style interface to listen to audios. Click Quickfeed at the top. If you have a better idea for a name let me know.
Space to play. Up/down moves through audios. Left/right seeks. F favorites/undoes favorites, and C opens comments. In theory you're supposed to be able to send a comment from there as well, but it might not work very well, I'm still figuring that one out.
Also, simply scrolling the page will also switch audios. If you're using NVDA for example, if you press H to go through the headings, it should automatically fade. This is also how it should work on mobile, but mobile is only theoretical and I haven't tested that part at all yet. In theory you can also swipe left and right on mobile to seek.
This is a beta feature, so it's a work in progress, but I asked Byte Bender if we could test it on you and he agreed so hale!
Some bugs I already know:
- You can't set volume
- Posting comments doesn't always work
- If you switch away from the quickfeed, the audio does not stop playing. Press space before switching or reload the page, that fixes it.
- Sometimes an audio will fail to load. It is supposed to be able to recover from that, but it might not always.
- There's no sorting controls yet, so it will always use random sorting. But on the plus side, you'll find some really cool old new stuff! It's like an algorithm without an algorithm.
Let me know how you like this one.

Another issue, if you scroll far enough it will stop. It is supposed to automatically fetch more audios, but that bits broken. I'll fix it soon.

I'm totally loving where this is going! It's totally still beta, but damn it feels so smooth! Can't wait for it to become stable enough to merge to main!

Audiopub Live when? i want to see NPC streams on here.
Talon - 09/08/2025
Another bug, it really doesn't work well at all on mobile. You can tap to play and swipe left/right to seek, but swiping up/down to scroll doesn't work. Will fix.

So when commenting on a quickfeed, hitting space pauses and plays audio. Also, when adding to favorites, with F, it restarts the audio. Not sure if that's intended. But I like this, it does give it like that tiktok feel.
GigaSound - 09/08/2025
ok so I couldn't close the comment diologue once I opened it with c. I'd really appreciate a way to find the title of what I'm playing. Maybe t? What you think. But all together I really love this. Like seriously love it!
BlueLegend - 09/09/2025
I'm confused on one thing. Does it play shorts, or is it just a fancy way of viewing what exists? I ask this because one of my things randomly appeared there without rhyme or reason and its not a short. If its not supposed to be shorts, I do apologize. The name is a bit misleading. I assume shorts when I hear quickfeed. It is interesting though, even if I don't yet understand it completely.
GigaSound - 09/09/2025
@BlueLegend Definitely not shorts. It's just a way to view all of the pub randomly. It's a neat thing, but there's no shorts involved. The reason he said shorts like youtube and tiktok is because that's basicly how you view youtube and tiktok on your computer.

Some bug fixes:
Talon - 09/09/2025
Mobile still broken. Sorry phone people. I promise I'll get that working soon. It's part of why the huge layout change.
Talon - 09/09/2025
New known issue, volume change only take affect after you change audios at least once.
Talon - 09/09/2025
Also did anyone notice the transitions? I spent way too much time on that haha. Should I make it a little more obvious or is it fine this way?
Aedion - 09/09/2025
Yes, they are pretty cool!
I think you kind of broke the mobile experience. I was able to change audio navigating using the heading option on talk back, but I can't really do that anymore. There is a comment dialogue that I can't really close out of it
KamiKitsune - 09/09/2025
so I actually did some doom scrolling. nice job. you should make the audios loop, like on youtube. also love the effect.
Talon - 09/09/2025
Yup sorry about that. I'll fix both of those soon.
Jonathan859 - 09/09/2025
This, is highly based dude. I wanted this.
Jonathan859 - 09/09/2025
@Lucas dude that would be super wild.
Talon - 09/09/2025
lol I'm not gonna be the one to add livestreams because someone would have to moderate them. Nah I'm good
Jonathan859 - 09/09/2025
Bro I love this, this is so good. Yeah there are still some bugs. It would be cool if the Audio would stop when I go back to the home page for example. And dash and = assumes I use english keyboard then I guess? But generally, wonderful. Transitions are great too.
Jonathan859 - 09/09/2025
Sorry just saw that was already in the bug reports.
Talon - 09/09/2025
OK. Swiping now kinda sorta works on mobile, but you have to turn voiceover off on iOS for now at least. Also the transitions sound absolutely terrible on iOS so that's something I'll have to fix at some point. If you're swiping and it doesn't work, try swiping a little further up. The page still scrolls even though I tell it not to and it does weird things. Gotta love the web.
Talon - 09/09/2025
Oh and it crackles in Chrome? wtf? OK if you want to hear what the transitions are actually really supposed to sound like, try it in FireFox. Why the heck does it work best in FireFox? No idea, but yet another thing to fix. Yayyy
Talon - 09/09/2025
I have significantly improved transitions on mobile, and swiping now works properly across the page. On iOS, you do still have to turn off voiceover. I will try to fix this at some point, but it seems to be more involved than expected. But if you turn vo off, you can swipe back and forth through posts now, and transitions should be better. If your net is bad or an audio takes a long time to load, you might keep hearing the old audio until the new one is loaded. And if it gets silent, tapping the screen should get you going again. If it doesn't, swipe to the next audio and tap again and it'll work.
I believe this should also improve things slightly for Chrome users.
Let me know if there are any weird issues left with comments and such.
Talon - 09/09/2025
Actually I think a lot of the slowness with iOS safari is apples stupid implementation of the audio element. If I can ever be bothered to figure out a custom streaming solution for audio that goes directly into web audio I can probably fix that too, but honestly I don't really feel like fixing apples stupid mistakes right now. Sorry if it's not super ideal but this is the best I got for now in terms of iOS transition stuff. I hope it's better on android but I don't have one so can't really test.
McOi - 09/09/2025
Dang man, yo that's somethin'. It's really fun just wasting, uh, already 30 minutes with this by now? For the pc this will surely replace shorts. I found a lot of nice things I would've otherwise, maybe by the title, not even listened to for example. The transition is really nice too for most audios. I do get things twice sometimes but hey. It's a beta. Keep this up, this is so much potential.
McOi - 09/09/2025
I wouldn't have otherwise*. Man I wish we could edit comments lmao
Aedion - 09/09/2025
I'm in love with this feature. The only two issues now is the audio not stopping the playback on exiting, and also the comment dialogue not closing.
