Description:
I know some of you like these things, so I'm adding to the collection of bathroom sounds on this site. Here is a five-minute compilation of various water-related bathroom noises that I recorded a few years ago when I was bored. Toilets included! It was recorded using a Zoom H1XLR and some electret capsules.

How would you capture from inside the bowl?

It depends on the toilet bowl. Some are very low, so it's best not to hang the microphone too far into the bowl in those cases, as it might get caught in the swirling water otherwise. My toilet is relatively high, so I was able to hang the microphone capsule a few centimetres into the bowl and tuck the cable under the lid. It doesn't matter if the capsule gets splashed a little. Electret microphones are quite robust, which is why I also use them for recordings by my window.
