Description:
Great drumb & bass music to program to! This was used in the hit game Unreal Tournament 1999 (or UT99 as it's known).

They were obviously heavily used in Amiga games in the late 80s / early 90s, but did enjoy some popularity in the mid to late 90s on the PC platform as well, when disk space was still at a premium, but even basic PCs could be expected to have sample playback capabilities (Sound Blaster or compatible, Intel AC97), rather than just music synthesis of the FM or wave-table varieties.
At least, I believe so. I haven't exactly done research into this. 😛

A fair few DOS games also used them.
