Here )southeastern Europe) they use part of this sound for weather alerts, so you'll hear your phone go off at an obnoxiously loud volume. It's mildly intimidating and scary considering the context, and good at getting attention. But the actual amber alert sound we've got frightens me. It's a steady, repeating, ascending sort of tone. Guess they engineer these things to stay with you.

that tone when I heard it the first time that siren sound? scared the shit out of me, now after listening to it more and more I kind of like it strangely.

i love how an amber alert is so overproduced. I thought maybe simple attention tone after the header and a tts voice but no a pre amber alert alert and then the amber alert got ps1 intro music ontop

also its probably scarry to most because it has a tritone, the most dissonant interval in the musical scale

oh, doesn't that sound like a thing which activates weather radios? I heard it's forbidden to play it aloud in some places.

    • SweetDaddyRizz - 02/07/2026

Yeah... You're not allowed to play it on the radio outside of situations like that where they're authorized to do it. I was referring to the sound after that though, the siren that played right as the guy was talking.

    "four feet and eleven itches"

Oh yes, that siren after would make me shit my pants if it woke me up at night. Imagine you're listening to music on that radio before sleep and suddenly you hear an amber alert.
