Description:

This is a test drive of something I've been working on: an immersive audio remix of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights, based on the incredible dramatic reading that the LibriVox volunteers made. You can find the original public domain recording at librivox.org,

and I really encourage you to check out and support their work because without them, this wouldn't exist. I'm not trying to replace their original recording, just offering a different way to experience it.

Fair warning: if you're new to Wuthering Heights, the first few chapters are necessarily a bit slow. It's all essential context, though.

This is just chapter one as a test. I wanted to see if this approach actually works before committing to the full twelve-hour audiobook. If people are into it and it seems worth continuing, I'll be releasing a few chapters at a time as I finish mixing them.

The original text is Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights, published in 1847 and now in the public domain. The reading was created by LibriVox volunteers and is also in the public domain. It's probably worth noting that this is a completely independent project, and I'm not affiliated with any of the volunteers who created the original reading. I'm just a fan building on their great work, and my hope is that this mix does justice to both their performance and to Emily Brontë's vision

Very very nicely done so far. I would definitely listen to more for sure. I've never read the book before. So, hearing it in this way would be awesome. I love audio dramas. Full cast narrations are good. But, having music sound and even a 3d effect is so much better IMO. Lol.

This is incredible! Excellent job on this, I have never read this book before and have no clue what it is at all, but your skills are nothing short of amazing. I think that if you continue to do this, I will, in fact, read the book.

    that was cool

This is nice! Very well done! Love the subtle sidechain on the inner dialog voice with the rest. Not abrupt, makes everything get ever so slightly out of the way of the inner voice. Really nice! I'll definitely keep listening if you make more!

Please do more of these. Definitely has that 1800s vibe. I love it.

This is so good. To be honest, I would love to see how you organize such a project as it looks to be a supremely difficult task, did you manually cut out each speakers dialogue or use some sort of speaker diarization System to help?

  • The Byte Bender - 10/23/2025

I cut them manually. It's very easy in Reaper; just go through the chapter and press s, press s, press s!

I love this! Def continue it. I'm a fan of audiobook dramatizations done well anyways, and this is certainly done well
