I Wanted to talk about a super niche genre I'm passionate about called deriacore. It's not something you'll find easily, you really have to go digging on platforms like SoundCloud and Bandcamp for the good stuff.
So, what is it? At its core, it's a wild mix of styles. It takes the distorted, "wall of sound" approach from shoegaze and combines it with the chaotic, fast-paced drum patterns of breakcore. The most unique part is the sampling – artists use everything from old pop songs and anime OPs to video game music (Kingdom Hearts gets a lot of love). The whole sound was really defined by Jane Remover's (fka dltzk) Dariacore album trilogy.
I've spent the last two years collecting what I feel is the best-of-the-best of this genre. It's a deep rabbit hole, so if anyone is curious and wants a curated collection to start with, let me know and I can share it.
